Bringing Neighbors Together to Build Community
Welcome to the West Colfax Neighborhood!
The West Colfax Association of Neighbors – aka WeCAN – welcomes you to the West Colfax neighborhood! Founded in 2009, WeCAN is the Registered Neighborhood Association (RNO) for the West Colfax neighborhood in the City and County of Denver.
West Colfax has a rich and diverse history in Denver. Over 100 years ago, West Colfax developed as the residential and business center for the Jewish Community, and several large Victorian homes were built along Stuart St., now a historic district. West Colfax Avenue became a part of US Highway 40 in the 1940s, a 26 mile stretch through Denver where hotels, restaurants, and clubs were built; reminders of them still dot W. Colfax Ave. today. West Colfax remains one of the most diverse and culturally unique neighborhoods in Denver.
WeCAN’s mission is Bringing Neighbors Together to Build Community. WeCAN hosts a variety of social events and volunteer opportunities throughout the year to bring neighbors together; including two West Colfax Clean-up Days a year, tree planting every spring, and the Running Club every Monday to run around Sloan’s Lake, and more.
WeCAN strives to connect neighbors to one another, events, and news in West Colfax. Sign-up to receive our newsletter, follow us on Facebook and Twitter, or attend a General Membership Meeting. Be informed and have a say on issues affecting West Colfax: rezoning and liquor license requests, business development, sustainability programs, park improvements, crime prevention, and city and local community resources.
